Past

An incision is made through the middle of your chest and through the breast bone.  This has long been the gold standard for the treatment of valvular heart disease.

Present And Future

For select patients that qualify, the aortic or mitral valve can be replaced through small incisions in the groin or upper chest without having to open up the breast bone. These options include TAVR, MitraClip and Minimally Invasive Valve Surgery.
